Shadows of Light

The world lay solemn and silent. Then, it ripped in two. Black forms divided reality, tearing apart like some horrible dark maw, it's opening jaw's pulling away space. And from that gap seeped darkness, crawling forth like an army of connected insects, a living intangible existence that proceeded like a mist. It was cold, without light. Inside of it lay what was known as a passage between worlds- A darkness where light couldn't shine, where people could travel without sound or sight. Tendrils of eerie darkness covered you, sliding against those whom passed through it. From this black existence that fringed upon nothingness, did the man step. His feet hit the solid ground, his golden eyes peering around him as for the first time in ages did the being see light. It burned against his eyes but he did not hesitate, the rest of his body pushing from the mass and stepping out into the realm of light. He wore black, as most of his kind did, his clothes old and but well-kept. They have been a part of him since early after his birth, and they would likely keep with him til death. The man, if he could be called a man for humanity was often a difficult thing to judge, strode out of the small passageway, his feet knocking away gravel and stone which impeded his path without glance. The visitor turned the corner and looked out to get a true glimpsed of the world, finding himself in a large square, chunks of buildings scattered.

These signs of damage were familiar as they were so long ago. Torn asunder, ripped apart, broken in half- The worlds were not simply taken but shattered by the great dark army that had raged for centuries. This one in particular did not seem familiar- This could have been due to a failing memories, the years having wearied his mind some, or simply because it had been so broken by conflict that it no longer acutely resembled what it had been. His finger's crawled up to his hat, adjusted the brim as he stepped over a particularly large piece of debris, stepping onto it to get a better look of the world. The sky was dark, but little flashes of light could be seen, aiding in illuminating the city. For it was a city of course. "Like lightning..." Murmured him, his lips sliding gently against each other, a grin forming upon the stranger's face. "A short and bright shot of lightning...

The heartless whispered softly to himself, strolling along nonchalantly, the hat mask his eyes but not his grin. The sentient being had somewhat of a spring in his step, energetic and stretching his limbs out in a lanky fashion as he glimpsed up to see a woman, of all things, falling from the sky. One foot in front of the other he strolled along, heartless dying in bursts of darkness, their bodies crumbling but their hearts remaining captured by the evil, sure to return again even without the power of the bell's call. At the final beast's fall, a great mammoth of a creature, falling upon the ground.

He raised a brow at the fell beast and stopped at it's corpse which was already breaking apart. "My my..." He Murmured, smiling faintly at the sight of the beast. If people could defeat such level of the kind, perhaps there was some hope yet to his awakening. He let out a yawn, his hand covering mouth as he did so, before glancing over to the girl. His hand rose slowly, waving slightly in recognition of his existence. "Fine...Day...or Night...Difficult to tell in a world like this, no?" Certainly it would have been better-kept, and had a clock instead of some silly bell. Alas, Heartless were better suited to destruction, rather than recreation. Or rather, they normally were. Others sought other uses for hearts.
